Same red suit, twenty different evenings
Santa looks the same on every page: a red suit with white fur, a black belt with a gold buckle, black boots and a white beard. Once the suit is red, half the page is already done, which is why these drawings are built around what he is doing, not around him. He shares a carrot with a reindeer, knocks at a door, reads to a group of children, falls asleep in his chair.
The one thing to watch is the white. The fur, the beard and the pompom are big areas that should stay white, and a red crayon that slips onto them is hard to hide. Color the red parts slowly along the fur, or go round the white first with a light grey line, and the suit stays clean.
The pages run from a single face for a two-year-old to a full workshop for older children. The mask, the baby Santa and the hot cocoa are the easiest; the elves, Mrs Claus and the stockings on the mantelpiece take a whole afternoon. The letter is the page to print first in December, since it gets written before anything is colored.
Keep one red crayon or felt pen just for the suit. Two slightly different reds on the same Santa show more than you would think, and the same red on every page makes a set that looks like it belongs together.
Common questions
What is the easiest Santa coloring page here?
The Santa mask: one big face, a hat and a beard, a handful of large areas. The baby Santa and Santa with hot cocoa come next, both with thick lines and big shapes.
Is there a letter to Santa to print?
Yes. It has twelve ruled lines in a frame, a reindeer, presents and a tree across the top and a border of stars and holly, so it can be written first and colored after.
Do you have Saint Nicholas, not just Santa?
Yes, a page of Saint Nicholas as a bishop, with his tall mitre, his crozier and a sack of presents. He is the saint whose Dutch name, Sinterklaas, gave Santa Claus his name.
Which pages have Rudolph or the reindeer?
Santa sharing a carrot with Rudolph, and Santa's sleigh flying across the moon behind two reindeer. The Christmas collection has Rudolph on his own as well.
Can I color these Santa pages online?
Yes. Every drawing opens in the browser: pick a color, click inside an area and it fills. What you do is kept on your own device.
